Without their help the Cotton Kings would have been without lights and bases. Summer development leading to collegiate successThe primary focus of the Cotton Kings is the development of collegiate players. Members of the 2005 Cotton Kings are experiencing successful college seasons after a summer of swinging wood bats in the PSWBL. The following 2005 Cotton Kings are paying huge dividends for Coach Bass and the Wayland Baptist Pioneers in Plainview, TX.
Sean Iverson has made the most of his new home at Wayland after transferring from Texas Tech. He spent his first two college seasons at Mesa Community College where he played for Coach Tony Cirelli. Although 2005 was his first season with the Cotton Kings, Ivy and Cotton King GM Joe Walter both played on a very good amateur team known as the Arizona Mavericks when Sean was a "kid" in 2001. Ivy was among the Cotton King team leaders with a .289 average, 37 hits, 8 doubles, a homerun, and drove in 24 runs while swinging wood bats in the highly competitive PSWBL. He played every position around the infield and even caught a game for us. Be sure to follow Sean and the rest of the Pioneers in their 2006 campaign. He's currently hitting .435 with 9 homeruns and 39 RBI. On the field Chase plays very aggressive. He puts pressure on the infield by running hard out of the box and defensively he's good for 'web gem' once a game. You won't see him give away an at-bat. He's currently hitting .358 with 7 homeruns and 34 RBI.
Joe Covarubbias hits a walk-off homerun against NAIA power Bellevue, NE (pictured left). Joe is currently batting .363 with 5 homeruns and 23 RBI. Jon Reynoso played for the Cotton Kings in 2004 before joining the Havasu Heat. As a Cotton King he hit .369 with 6 homeruns and 32 RBIs. Jon currently has 6 homeruns and 22 RBI. Shea Clark is another former Cotton King and current Pioneer.
Ricardo Cruz making his mark in the D-backs farm system
The Osprey organization had nothing but good things to say about Ricardo. One team official said "He was always one of the first to volunteer to work a youth baseball camp or sign autographs and we never had to worry about him getting into trouble". Anyone who knows the kid will agree. He has the utmost respect for the game and his opponent. He doesn't show anybody up, even when he hits a tape measure shot. It's refreshing to see someone with that kind of talent demonstrate the same level of sportsmanship. Parents: if you're looking for a positive role model for your children and an example of a class act, look no further than Ricardo. ***Special thanks to the Missoula Osprey Professional Baseball Club for the photos. |
